Sahmyook University’s Volunteer Club “Good Sharers” Receives Fund

Good Sharers, a volunteer club made up of students from the Social Welfare Department at Sahmyook University, became one of the recipients of funds from the Dream With Volunteer Corps’ volunteering project, which is for children in a local community.

To apply for the project, volunteer clubs from all over the country developed a program for children. After their application papers were reviewed and the project details were presented, a total of 19 volunteer clubs, including Good Sharers, were chosen as fund recipients.

The Good Sharers’ winning programwas to stage one of William Shakespeare’s plays with children. This year, they plan to visit a local children center in Nowon-Gu, where Sahmyook University is located, twice a month in order to prepare a play. They are scheduled to perform on stage in November. The Good Sharers received 6 million won (around 5,100 USD) to run the program.

Good Sharers has carried out a variety of volunteer work for children, such as putting on a puppet show for preventing child sex abuse, conducting a campaign on child abuse, and one-to-one mentoring. Kang JiWon, chair of Good Sharers, states, “We are so excited to work for children in our community in this way supported by a volunteering association. We will keep our focus on children’s rights and quality improvement in their lives.”
