NSD Pastoral Spouses’ Mental Fitness Video Series

The Pastoral Spouses’ Mental Fitness Video Series by the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD) was recorded at the KUC studio on the Sahmyook University campus from June 16 to 18, 2015. Though often unrecognized, pastoral spouses do great work for the church, providing support for the church and for their spouses.

The Mental Fitness Program for Pastoral Spouses is to help pastors’ spouses achieve a life that is healthy, happy, and filled with grace. First and foremost, pastoral spouses need to remember that they are recharged with heavenly grace every day. Through that loving grace, they can realize how valuable and precious they are. This knowledge will lead them to appreciate the value of the cross and feel good about themselves. Then, they will be able to value others and treat them with respect. Those who are treated with respect will eventually come to join a positive cycle of being able to serve and devote themselves to their family, church, and nation.

The purpose of this program is to help pastoral spouses become “Positive Me,” “Respecting You,” and “Together Us.” They will gladly play the role of light and salt, becoming a living letter from God to give off heavenly fragrance in this world. Our goal is to provide each NSD Shepherdess International coordinator with a master DVD and materials that can be translated into the language of their pastoral spouses.

For this program, pastoral spouses will gather once a week and spend time together using the DVD and the small group workbook to help heal their wounded hearts and to share stories and mentoring. This time of fellowship will be a great catalyst for making the ministry of pastoral spouses healthier and more joyful. The series includes 10 video presentations.

This 10-part video series is presented by the NSD ministerial department. Our speaker, Kim NaMi, PhD, is an assistant professor of psychology and pedagogy at Sahmyook University, Seoul, Korea. She is the head of the “Between Us Interpersonal Relationship Institute” and has developed various ministry programs that focus on counseling, healing, and nurturing families.

She has been serving the Adventist Church for 15 years as a pastor’s wife to Yoon HanSu at the Korea SDA Language Institute, and she is the mother of two children, Sang Hyun (16) and Hanna (10). It was God’s blessing that she would share this valuable, encouraging material with us. Her courage to present the lectures in English will make it possible for us to dub the videos into the languages of the NSD mission countries and of our world church.

This precious ministry resource for pastoral spouses was made possible by a shared effort of the General Conference Shepherdess International coordinator, Janet Page; Korean Union Conference, Dr. Kang SoonKi; and the NSD ministerial department. We thank them for their support. We also wantto express our appreciation to the AMC Studio team under the leadership of Pastor Ku JiHyun and producer Kim DoSung. Our translator, Surina Yoon, was also a blessing. We were able to develop the participant materials through Kim SeMi’s kind ministry skill. We also thank Pastor S. J. Byun for his guidance and wise advice for how to develop the DVD.  For more information, please email Lynn Ripley at lripley@nsdadventist.org.
