Transitions and a new face at the NSD

Kim SunHwan

The needs for the works in the NSD have necessitated some staff changes. Due to the election of Dr. Kim YoHan as the NSD president, the executive committee of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division was held on July 29, 2022 and voted to appoint Pr. Kim SunHwan as a director of Adventist Mission and Pioneer Mission Movement, in addition to his original responsibilities as a PARL director.

Pastor Kim’s ministerial career began as a local church pastor, followed by various assignments that included SDA Language Institute Executive Secretary, SDA Language Center Director in the Philippines, and the NSD associate secretary and a director of NSD PARL Department.

Pastor Kim holds a Master of Arts degree from the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS) of the Philippines. He is now in the Doctor of Philosophy program at Sahmyook University.

The NSD EXCOM also voted to appoint Pr. Choi HoYoung as an assistant to the president in addition to his original responsibilities as a Youth director.

Choi HoYoung

Pastor Choi graduated from Sahmyook University in Korea with a B.A in Theology, and obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Health (M.P.H) from Graduate School of Health Science and Social Welfare Sahmyook Univ. He applied for the first batch of 1000 Missionary Movement (1000 MM) and served in the Palawan and Mindanao areas of the Philippines.

He started his ministry in 1995 at the Middle West Korean Conference (MWKC) in Korea and served several churches. He also served as Middle West Korean Conference(MWKC) Youth Director, then Director of National Service Organization, and Director of Spirit of Prophecy over two sessions from 2007-2011. He continued to serve at the Korean Union Conference (KUC) as Youth Director and Director of the National Service Organization for four years. During his tenure, he served as secretary of the Korean Hymnal Compilation Committee, contributing to reorganizing new hymns in the Korean SDA church.

Due to the appointment of Pr. Kim SunHwan as the Adventist Mission director, NSD needed a new associate secretary. After a prayerful search, the NSD EXCOM voted to appoint Pastor Kim HyunMin, the current KUC Associate Secretary and Adventist Mission Director as the new NSD Associate Secretary. Pr. Kim will also serve as an Associate Director of Adventist Mission.

Kim HyunMin

Pastor Kim HyunMin began his pastoral ministry in 2005 at the SDA language institute. During his pastoral ministry, he served as a local church pastor, a chaplain of the SDA language school and the Korean Adventist Preparatory Academy, director of SDA language school’s Main Institute,  a senior pastor of Sahmyook University International church, an assistant professor at Sahmyook University, and an Associate Secretary and Adventist Mission Director of the Korean Union Conference.

Pr. Kim graduated from Sahmyook University in Korea with a B.A in Theology, and obtained his Master’s Degree in Missiology (Intercultural Studies) from Fuller Theological Seminary. He also studied in the Master’s program in Old Testament Studies at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He is now a Ph.D candidate in Missiology at Sahmyook University.

One change that the NSD made during this EXCOM is to place the Adventist Mission under Secretariat office as the General Conference do. We believe God will continue to guide and bless the NSD family and our ministry.
