Korean Adventist Hospitals Make an Agreement with Dongdaemun-gu

On November 13, 2012, Seoul Adventist Hospital and Sahmyook Adventist Dental Hospital made an agreement with the DongdaemunWard Office, to provide health care service to the Dongdaemun community.

Both hospitals decided to participate in the campaign “1:1 Health Care of Hope” which is supervised by the Dongdaemun Ward Office. This service is only for the neglected people in the Dongdaemun district. The hospitals promised to support the people through a personal health care service.

On this special day, many important figures from around the world, from the hospitals, and the community were present at the event. Dr. Myung Sup Choi, President of Seoul Adventist Hospital, Shin Kook Park, Vice-President of Seoul Adventist Hospital, ByeongRin Kim, President of Sahmyook Adventist Dental Hospital, and DeokYeolYoo,the Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, attended the ceremony as well.

Dr. Myung Sup Choi expressed his opinion on the importance of health by saying, “Many people overlook all sorts of warning signals about their health. We must always recognize that health is the most valuable, but invisible asset we have. Our hospitals will build a healthy city and play a key role in that business. We will also make a special effort to do our best to keep the people of Dongdaemun-gu healthy.”He added that,“Our hospital is about 100 years old, and we are proud of our own presentations in health seminars and health education. It is so important to know that prevention is better than a cure. In terms of prevention, health education is the most effective way to keep ourselves disease free. This knowledge is seriously needed for people who live in a big citysuch as Seoul. We have been instructing people on anti-smoking, diabetes, cancer, and so on.”

Dr. ByeongRin Kim stated, “We are delighted to be part of this important movement to help people live healthier. Through this agreement, I hope that our hospitals and the DongdaemunWard Office will become good friends, and that this event will serve as a useful starting point for a healthier life.”

Finally, DeokYeol Yook, the Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, gave encouragement by saying,“I appreciate your help and dedication to us. We are especially thankful because there are so many people who are suffering from financial difficulties. It is the low-income people, and those who live in places where there are no human rights, that need help the most. I hope that this will help them to have good health. I believe that healthy citizens make a strong nation.”

This agreement ceremony is an extension of a concerted project with the Dongdaemun-gu office.
