On March 13, 2016, we, the 13th batch of Golden Angels, got on a plane bound for Hong Kong, fluttering with mission spirit. We were going to lead out in a Week of Prayer at Kowloon Sam Yuk Secondary School in Hong Kong. Because there were no guest speakers, we were to lead all of the programs for the week.
On the first day, each of us went into our assigned classes and spent time with the students as their one-day teacher. Most of the students at Kowloon School are not Adventists. We talked to them about Korean culture and language. We also talked to them about Jesus. We divided the students into small groups so that they could share prayer requests and have time for a group prayer. The students seemed to show interest in Jesus and His message.
Throughout the week, we had a worship service every day. We sang praise songs and shared our testimonies with the students. We tried to share the love of Jesus, how He came into our lives and hasled us. It was God who made a lot of students and teachers of the school touched by our testimonies.
On Sabbath afternoon, we had a small concert. We invited neighbors and church members near the school as well as the students. Many people who didn’t know about Jesus came to our concert and were impressed by our praises. God worked through our songs and filled the audiences’ hearts with joy and peace. One student remarked, “Your songs moved my heart. For the first time, I’d like to become a Christian.”Our earnest hope forthe students is that they get to know more about Jesus and believe in Him.
After completing aone-week trip in Hong Kong, we flew to Beitun District, Taiwan, to help with an evangelistic series at Beitun Adventist Church. When we arrived in Beitun, a dark gray sky and strong winds were waiting for us.
Before we started to work on evangelism, we set a goal: we made up our minds to mingle with local people, show them the character of Christ, deliver His words, and make them His disciples, as Jesus did on the Earth.Together, we earnestly prayed for this goal and were armed with God’s words.
On the first day of evangelism, we went to Taichung University of Science and Technology to meet students. As soon as we began to do our mission work in front of the university, the rain started to pour. However, the heavy rain could not stop us from preaching God. We kept our spirits up, handed out evangelism tracts, held an outdoor concert, and invited people to the evangelistic meeting. When we ran out of tracts, we tried to get their phone numbers so that we could contact them later.
It was amazing that many students actually turned up at the church meeting in the evening. Among them, 10 people enrolled in Beitun Church’s Korean class, a class held every afternoon during the evangelism although it is normally held twice a week. The ultimate goal of Korean class is to teach students the Korean language and then offer them Korean Bible study course for beginners.
Every day, we went out to meet people, visited local people door to door and listened to their stories, talked to them about God and His words, and sang praise songs to bring them joy and comfort. Although there wasn’t a single day that it wasn’t raining, our God gave people heartsto long for God’s word and lead them to the church.
God is so great that the Beitun Church baptized sixteen souls through this evangelistic series. We pray that these sixteen people who were baptized, will be disciples of God, and make other disciples.
