The very first NSD Leadership Summit convened at the Heritage Hotel, Manila, Philippines with an opening address by DrJairyong Lee, NSD President , stating precisely the purpose of this important convention: Leadership, Revival and Mission. Hence, the aptly chosen theme of this Summit was “NSD Leadership Summit: Revival and Mission First”.
The participants are heads of institutions within the NSD territory inclusive of significant institutions that support the work of NSD: 1000MM, ADRA Asia and AIIAS. The other participants are union officers, NSD officers and departmental directors and associate directors. Their spouses were also invited.
The main presenters were:
1) Dr Delbert Baker, GC vice-president, who spoke on “Ten Characteristics of Effective Leadership”
2) Dr Fred Hardinge, GC Associate Health Ministries Director who brought to us a relevant message on “Strength for Revival and Reformation”
3) Dr David Ripley, NSD Ministerial Secretary, who shared with us “The Role of Mission and Vision in an Adventist Institution.”
4) Breakout sessions for lady spouses were conducted by Dr Sally Lam-Phoon, NSD Children, Family and Women’s Ministries Director and Pastor Lynn Ripley, NSD Shepherdess International Coordinator and both of them spoke on the topic, “Spiritual Growth in Action.”
The 3 morning devotionals were presented by Pastor Masumi Shimada, JUC president, Dr Kim Dae Sung, KUC president and Pastor David Ng, CHUM president. Special music was provided by groups of delegates from KUC, JUC and CHUM. Several singing groups from AIIAS also blessed us with their music.
A special mid-day devotional was given by His Excellency Pastor Bienvendio V. Tejano, Philippines Ambassador to Papua New Guinea. He is also an ordained minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Philippines and still holding the ministerial credential from the North Philippines Union Conference. His powerful and inspirational message was entitled, “Spiritual Leadership in Public Administration.”
Visits to significant institutions such as the Southern Asia-Pacific Division, 1000 Missionary Movement Center, Adventist International Institute for Advanced Studies and the Adventist University of the Philippines rounded off our Summit on the final day.
The delegates have responded verbally, in emails and through evaluation formsthat the Summit has indeed benefitted them.They felt challenged to continue to provide vigor to their institutions to fulfill their spiritual leadership roles for mission.
