First Family Evangelism at Chiayi Church, Taiwan

The first family evangelism was held at Chiayi Church in Taiwan from December 1 to 6, 2014. The Golden Angels gave the series a kickstart by holding a concert at a park on one of the busiest intersections in Chiayi City on the evening of November 30. The pastor’s wife, Mrs. Shin, and the MC for the evening were dressed in Korean traditional dress, hanboks. A registration booth was set up with samples of kimchi given to those who wanted a taste of this delicious Korean food. People could register for Korean language and cooking classes that would be held after the sermon each evening.

On the first night, we were pleasantly surprised with a packed audience of about 50 people who crowded into the small chapel. There were only 10 members; the rest were seekers.

The guest speakers, Dr. Sally Phoon and Dr. Chek Yat Phoon from the family ministries department of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division, presented the true meaning of love and how it can be best expressed in the same way that Christ loved us—unconditionally.

Throughout the week, they shared skills based on biblical principles that would help improve and enrich couple relationships. The Great Controversy was shared as the explanation behind the breakup of families and relationships that plague our world today. A number of couples expressed their appreciation for the help they received through the evening messages.
In addition to singing each evening, the Golden Angels held a class for the children, taught beginning and intermediate Korean classes and assisted with the cooking sessions.

Two seekers pledged to be baptized before the end of the year after completing a series of Bible studies with Pastor Shin HyunChul, who had been preparing them for months. Let’s pray that Chiayi Church will continue to grow as families are strengthened to reach out to others.
