Chinese Union Mission (CHUM) held its 2016 Annual Council at Hong Kong Adventist Hospital from December 6 to 7, 2016. A total of 51 delegates from various Adventist church organizations, including CHUM, the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD), and Hong Kong-Macao Conference (HKMC) participated in the meetings.
The agenda items and different departmental reports revolved around Total Member Involvement, the quinquennial theme of the mission. “Only when we mobilize every member of the church to carry out evangelism can we increase the Adventist membership in NSD territories from the current 720,000 to 1 million by the end of 2020,” said NSD president Jairyong Lee during the first morning devotional.
CHUM departmental directors and ministry coordinators presented their annual work reports to the audience. The reports told facts and stories of mission in the UT (Unorganized Territory) based on six aspects of Christ’s model ministry – to live like Christ, to preach like Christ, to make disciples like Christ, to teach like Christ, to heal like Christ and to serve like Christ.
At the close of the meetings, Bob Folkenberg, Jr., CHUM president, invited his core team members along with NSD leaders to the stage and dedicated the book The Story of Hope. The book is an abridged version of The Story of Redemption written by Ellen G. White. In an effort to mobilize all members for mission, CHUM plans to put this book, now easier to read and more appealing in design to the readers of the 21st century, into the hands of its members for wide distribution in its territory.
