As Christmas loses its true meaning little by little in an increasingly secularized world, Adventists living in Hong Kong once again used various ways to tell the world of our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ.
On Christmas Day of 2014, members of Tsuen Wan Adventist Church organized a cheerful performance at Ma On Shan Plaza, a local shopping mall, to spread the good news of salvation through Christ. Early in the morning, the church members transported their stage equipment to the site and calibrated them for the best results. Under the magnificent glass dome of the mall, surrounded by colorful decorations, the stage was ready to boost the festivity.
The start of the program immediately caught many shoppers’ attention. People began to gather around. The first program was brought by the residents from Heng On Social Centre for the Elderly. They sang a gospel song in Cantonese which was based on the tune of a well-known traditional folk song. Their beautiful presentation was rewarded with loud applause from the audience. Then Pastor Robert Wong gave a short sermon, telling the story of the Savior’s birth and its meaning to today’s world.
Next, the youth of Tsuen Wan Adventist Church demonstrated their impressive talents in music, including a violin solo, trumpet, electric keyboard and choir. The choir, after months of practice, gave their best to the show. With love for Christ and fellow citizens in their hearts, they wrapped up the program with “Joy to the World.” The event reached its climax with this inspirational song. The audience was electrified by the spirit of Christmas.
Adventists at Yuen Long Church held a music show on December 20, 2014, for the children of its kindergarten and their parents. More than 40 parents and 30 students came. The youth from Pioneer Memorial Church were invited to be the main performers. They sang the story of Christmas and presented Christ as the focus of the holiday. Five people expressed their desire to study the Bible and to join the worship services.
Other Adventists were equally brave and creative. Somewent to Ocean Park, a famous theme park for tourists and brightened the Christmas Day there with their talents and love.
