Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Due to the recent large-scale anti-government protests in Nepal, the entire society has fallen into extreme turmoil. According to major international news outlets, as of the 12th local time, 51 people have been reported dead from the protests that erupted in the capital city of Kathmandu and across the country. We cannot help but feel deep concern and sorrow at this news. The unrest in the streets, escalating conflicts, and suffering caused by violence are inflicting great wounds and fear upon the people of that land.
In the midst of this crisis, we are deeply concerned for the safety of missionaries dispatched to Nepal, as well as the 41 local churches and approximately 9,400 members. Currently, Pastor Kim H. S., who has been dispatched as a missionary is serving at Nepal, and his family are staying on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Under circumstances where going outside is impossible, they are struggling to obtain even basic necessities. Pastor Kim described the situation as “extremely urgent” and earnestly requested the fervent prayers of our Adventist members.
At present, the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD) is closely working with the General Conference and local leaders in Nepal, seeking both immediate response and long-term stability for the country, as well as protection for Adventist members and missionaries. During the Division’s presidential Council (PREXAD), NSD President Kang SoonGi reported on the urgent situation, seeking collective wisdom and praying that, through God’s intervention, the current crisis in Nepal may be resolved peacefully.
The Northern Asia-Pacific Division sincerely requests your prayers for Nepal and the Adventist Church in the region:
- Quick stabilization of Nepalese society
That violence and division may cease, and the people may regain peace and move forward toward a new future. - Safety of local churches and members
That, even in the midst of tension and fear, they may not lose faith but remain under the Lord’s protection. - Safety of missionaries and their families
Especially that the family of Pastor Kim H. S., who remains in Nepal, may be protected by the Lord’s hand and have all their needs supplied. - Continuation and freedom of the gospel mission
That, despite political instability, the Word of God and the Three Angels’ Messages may continue to be shared without hindrance.
Dear brothers and sisters, this is a time when our prayers are desperately needed. We ask you to kneel together in intercession so that the love and peace of the Lord may cover the land of Nepal, and that the local churches and believers may stand firm in faith even amid trials.
Sincerely,
Kang SoonGi
President, Northern Asia-Pacific Division
