The summer retreat for the missionaries of the Public Campus Ministries (PCM) was held at Taiwan Adventist College from July 21 to 23, 2019. One of the goals of PCM is to support evangelistic work targeting college students in big cities of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD) territories. A student missionary who lives in the area where the PCM is targeting would team up with another student missionary from a foreign country, working together on campus. Foreign missionaries are supported as they study the language at the college. The purpose of this project is to plant a youth church in a target site. As of August 2019, a total of 16 missionaries from Korea, Brazil, the United States, and other countries have been dispatched to eight target cities in four NSD countries. The NSD is the first among the 13 Divisions to recruit and dispatch missionaries for PCM.
During the summer retreat, eleven PCM missionaries from Taiwan and Mongolia and the pastors who supervise them gathered together. The retreat started with opening worship led by Elder Noah Lai, president of Taiwan Conference (TWC). The next day, each of eleven missionaries gave reports on mission activities for the past six months, followed by a Q & A session, feedback, and prayer time. On the last day, the retreat was adjourned with a dedication ceremony led by Pastor Kim NakHyung, director of the NSD Youth and PCM Ministries.

In general, the mission reports seem positive about the PCM project. First of all, the missionaries agreed that most of the college students seemed favorable toward them , largely because the missionaries were students as well. Moreover, many students showed an interest in learning English and Korea. The Korean Culture Wave also helped the missionaries to invite students to evangelistic programs. The students who participated in the programs became familiar with the church and the church pastors. As a result, precious souls were baptized during the PCM summer camp meeting.
Nevertheless, there were trials and errors since this is the first time that the NSD PCM has implemented this project. However, with God’s grace and the full support of church leaders in the NSD, the PCM missionaries could dedicate themselves to their mission and keep trying to win souls. TWC granted a gift for the missionaries; they promised that they will continually support PCM missionaries.
Two missionaries are considering extending their service period until next year. If the new target fields are selected, the recruitment of the second batch of PCM missionaries is going to begin in September 2019. Then, the second batch missionaries will go through a short-term training course and will be dispatched to their mission fields.
