The Korean Adventist Women’s Association (KAWA) held a devotional meeting for board and advisory members at the Korean Union Conference (KUC) chapel hall on January 21, 2019. Approximately 40 women’s ministries leaders and female pastors gathered at this year’s retreat, where the theme was “Heralds of Light, Speed Away.”
Nam SangSook, KAWA president, gave welcome remarks to the attendees. “I am very glad this morning as I see the faces of my companions in Christian faith. I am sure that our God is pleased with our dedication.” Citing Matthew 23:10, “Nor are you to be called ‘teacher,’ for you have one Teacher, the Christ,” she emphasized whom they should follow in their ministries.

The retreat was held with the support of the women’s ministries department of the Korean Union Conference (KUC). In her message of encouragement, Ahn JaeSoon, KUC women’s ministries director, focused on the life of Deborah, the mother of Israel. “In this age, people need a leader who is maternal, cooperative, thoughtful, and likely to serve, not to be served. We should foster this kind of leadership in ourselves when we live our daily lives and do our mission work,” said Mrs. Ahn.
Attendees were paired up to pray for the projects and progress of the 8th KAWA, women’s ministries of the five local Conferences under KUC, growth and revival of the Korean Adventist church, the peace and unification of Korea, and other prayer requests. During the retreat, they had a chance to renew their commitment to God and rekindle their passion for winning souls.
Korean Adventist Women’s Association (KAWA) was first conceived in April 1997. For the past 22 years, through KAWA, women have been able to better serve as missionaries in and out of the church by clearly establishing their sense of identity and educating themselves to live worthier lives. Not just domestically but in foreign missions, they have passionately served the Lord by saving many souls and building churches. Also, continual efforts have been made to develop better Adventist women leaders through spiritual, cultural, and missionary training programs.
