The 2017 Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD) executive committee members met together for the Midyear Committee in Taichung, Taiwan, from May 16 to 18, 2017. They approved various agenda items and shared reports of mission work and strategic plans as they sought God’s wisdom and power.
A major agenda item, reported by Kim SiYoung, NSD Adventist Mission director, was the progress of “Vision One Million 2020,” the goal of reaching a membership of 1 million in the NSD. Special efforts and plans were presented by the presidents of Unions, attached conference and mission. Last year, the number of total baptisms was 20,637, which was the highest record in 10 years. The total year-end membership was 719,766 as of December 2016.
“It doesn’t seem possible to reach the goal, but we pray for the result, asking for power from God to achieve the goal of this quinquennium,” said Jairyong Lee, NSD president. Following the General Conference undersecretary Myron Iseminger’s morning devotional, Pastor Lee put an emphasis on the “Go Forward” with the Mission First spirit by saying, “Go into the world! Unless we go, we will never finish the mission. We should depart from all our selfishness, and move forward together.”

In order to achieve the goal of this quinquennial vision, the administrators and leaders decided on the schedule and venue of the NSD International Mission Congress, which will be held from August 8 to 11, 2018, choosing the same theme of this Midyear Committee “Go Forward.” The venue will be KINTEX Convention Center in Ilsan, Goyang City, about 40 minutes from Incheon International Airport in Korea.
As this midyear meeting took place in Taiwan, the presidents of major institutions located in Taiwan presented to the participants their reports on the successful operation of Taiwan Adventist College, Taiwan Adventist Hospital, and the Signs of Times Publishing Association. It was reported that Taiwan Adventist College (TAC) applied for government-authorized degree programs and TAC may receive their certificate in the near future. The official government certificate can help TAC recruit more students and develop upgraded education programs.
By the grace of God, the meetings were successfully finished, and the committee members and invitees returned to their countries, praying that God will continue to lead and bless the mission activities throughout the NSD territories.
