The Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD) Midyear Committee took place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from May 18 to 19, 2016. The theme was “Vision One Million 2020” and the sub-theme was “Total Member Involvement.” Vision One Million 2020 was voted as the official motto of the NSD in March 2016, and the NSD set a goal of reachinga membership of one million by the year 2020 through mission involvement by its members.
In the opening session, NSD president Jairyong Lee encouraged the participants of the Midyear Committee. He stressed that we can accomplish the goal of reaching a membership of one million if all of the church members are involved with the mission, leading people to Jesus Christ, and nurturing them to be faithful members.
Pastor Kim SiYoung, NSD Adventist Mission director, presented a report on Vision One Million 2020 to the delegates with a detailed explanation regarding the vision and strategic plan. “Out of the current membership of 700,000, if 300,000 actively attending members bring one soul each to Jesus Christ, the goal will be accomplished. This is not an impossible goal, but a realistic one,” said Pastor Kim.
The presidents of each union, Taiwan Conference, and Mongolia Mission presented reports on Mission to the Cities. There were also reports from the NSD institutions. The Centers of Influence project was again emphasized as an important method to reach people, especially in urban areas.
It was unusual to have another meeting in conjunction with the Midyear Committee meetings, but the 3rd NSD Retention & Reclamation Summit took place from May 16 to 17. During the summit, participants felt the presence of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.
The 70 participating leaders from the NSD mission territories along with General Conference undersecretary Myron Iseminger, who was also in attendance, made a stronger commitment to the mission and the vision by setting goals.
