NSD Assigns Pastor Kim YoHan for Mongolia Mission

Pastor Kim YoHan, a church pastor at Gangreung Central Church in Korea, was appointed as the new president of Mongolia Mission and began his five-year term.

Pastor Elbert Kuhn, his predecessor, was elected as executive secretary of West Central Brazil Union Mission during the General Conference Session last July and Pastor Bold Batsukh had been acting as deputy.

“Mongolia is a barren mission field with many challenges. I will be faithful to death for the spiritual growth and missionary development of Mongolia,” said Pastor Kim YoHan.

He noted that reinforcement of pastors will be a top priority during his term. As there is no Adventist college in Mongolia, local pastors begin their ministries without completing a regular theology course.

“The most urgent priority is to develop qualification of pastors and to firmly establish their identity as Adventists. Then, the Mission and all church members can also be rooted in their identity. In addition, the Mongolia Mission will initiate various projects, such as building of a youth campground and an Adventist dental hospital in order to construct the future of the Mongolian Adventist church,” said Pastor Kim.

There are about 2,100 Adventist members in Mongolia, and the actual number of members who regularly attend a church every week is much less. There are only seven ordained ministers in Mongolia. However, the future of the church is bright because most members are under age 40.

Three Korean PMM pastors and their families are sowing seeds of the gospel in Mongolia. However, there are many restrictions on their activities because the Mongolian Government does not issue official missionary visas to them.

The visa problem is one of the most pressing tasks for Mongolia Mission. Once that is solved, many more young pastors from other countries in the Northern Asia-Pacific Division who have a vision for global mission may serve the Mongolian church.

Please pray for the mission work in Mongolia.
