Just before the Communication and Leadership Advancement Program (CLAP3D) began on Sunday, August 3, Typhoon Kompasu hit Jeju Island just prior to this leading to the complete shutdown of the Jeju Airport on Saturday, August 2. Although winds were still howling, they brought our participants safely to Jeju from all over the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD). It was by God’s providence that 90% of all participants arrived safely on Sunday with a few more coming on Monday and Tuesday due to flight cancellations.
This is the first time that CLAP is meeting at the newly built Adventist Training Center owned by NSD. Two years ago, CLAP2D was conducted at a resort on Jeju Island and the group was also visited by Typhoon Bolaven in the middle of classes.
Praise God that all teachers arrived safely on time for this CLAP session, and the participants are renewing their friendships and actively involved in conversational English. In addition, leadership classes will focus on abuse prevention education and how to handle abuse at the church and institutional levels besides learning about boardmanship. A class in understanding themselves by using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) will also be presented.
Guest speaker, Dr Eugene Hsu, Consultant to the Mission & Research Strategy Center of the NSD, is scheduled to arrive this Friday. He will be sharing his ideas on leadership with regards to decision-making, priorities, pitfalls and rewards. We are praying that the next anticipated typhoon will be diverted from making a direct hit on Jeju Island in another couple of days.
