The Northern Asia-Pacific Division Commission (NSD) on Accreditation (NSDCA) of the Accrediting Association of Seventh-day Adventist Schools, Colleges and Universities (AAA) sent 2 visiting teams to Hiroshima San-iku Gakuin Academy (HSGA) and Taipo Sam Yuk Secondary School (TPSYSS) from November 19-21, 2013 and November 25-27, 2013, respectively.
The appointed visiting team for Hiroshima San-iku Gakuin Academy is as follows: Dr Chek Yat Phoon, chair, NSD Director of Education, Ms Lauren Couillard, secretary, Hong Kong Adventist Academy (HKAA) Executive Vice-Principal, Mr Neil Hawkins, Taiwan Adventist International School Vice-Principal, Mr Makoto Hirata, Kita-ura San-ikuJunior Academy Principal, Mr Seiji Suzuki, Okinawa San-iku Junior Academy, DrKiyomi Watanabe, San-ikuGakuin College Vice-President and Mr Dong Jin Lyu, NSD Associate Treasurer.
The appointed visiting team for Taipo Sam Yuk Secondary School is: Dr Chek Yat Phoon, chair, NSD Director of Education, Dr Verna Nga Fun Wu, secretary, Chinese Union Mission(CHUM) Director of Education, Ms Lauren Couillard, HKAA Executive Vice-Principal, MsCleidi Kuhn, Mongolia Mission Director of Education, Dr Hiroshi Tabuchi, HSGA Vice-Principal, Dr Brian Yuen Yau Wong, Macao Sam Yuk Middle School, Ms Grace Wong, Kowloon Sam Yuk Secondary School Principal, and MrJohnny Kwok Leung Wong, CHUM Treasurer.
During the regular accreditation visits of these two schools, there were interviews with administration, faculty, students, some parents and teachers-parents’ association leaders. There was significant progress made in both of these two schools in spite of challenges face by them in terms of students’ enrollment, maintaining a high academic standard and also fulfilling their roles of being schools that provide Adventist education. Hence, the two separate visiting committees have proposed to recommend to NSDCA/AAA to grant full accreditation to these two schools for five years till December 31, 2018.
