2016 GAiN Forum and GC Communication Advisory

The 2016 Global Adventist Internet Network (GAiN) hosted by the General Conference (GC) communication department was held at the GC headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, from February 24 to 27, 2016. Under the theme, “Telling our story in a rapidly changing world,” professionals from various fields gave presentations on innovative mission strategies via the internet and media. Many different topics, including media mission in the 21st century, data science, web traffic, video magazine, crisis management, and web-based Bible study,provided new inspiration for the 300 attendees.

Mr. ZhaoRui, a Chinese missionary who works through the internet, and Pastor Daniel Jiao, Chinese Union Mission communication director, received the netAward 2016. This award is given to those who are involved in creative online mission outreach of the church.

After the GAiN forum, the GC communication department held its advisory meeting with the division communication directors from February 29 to March 5, 2016, at the same venue. Elder Williams Costa, GC communication director, emphasized the necessity and importance of word, prayer, and the Holy Spirit at the devotional every morning.

During the advisory, participants discussed many different items, such as the internet and SNS mission, production of Christian movies and documentaries, the Creation movie, smart devices mission, and Adventist News Network. Each division also presented a report on communication ministry.

 

Pastor Han SukHee, NSD communication director,reported on the public relations and media ministryof the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD)and received positive feedback.

On the closing Sabbath of the advisory, Elder Ted Wilson, GC president, pointed out problems of ministers who are like Balaam in Numbers 22, and he appealed to those who were in attendance to serve God with pure hearts. As a result of the meeting, participants resolved once again to effectively spread the Three Angels’ Messages.
