Pastor Nam SooMyung Elected as New President of the Korean Union Conference

Pastor Nam SooMyung, who currently serves as President of the Korean Publishing House, has been elected as the new spiritual leader who will guide the Korean Adventist Church for the next five years.

On December 7, 2025, during the 37th General Session of the Korean Union Conference (KUC), Pastor Nam was called to serve as the new KUC President, entrusted with leading the ministry and mission of the Adventist Church in Korea for the upcoming term.

Pastor Nam SooMyung, the newly elected President of the Korean Union Conference, delivers his acceptance remarks.

Among the 365 ballots cast, he received 267 votes in favor and 98 against, for an approval rate of 73.15 percent.

Pastor Nam was elected without additional nomination procedures, following the standard process in which the Nominating Committee selects a single candidate for president and presents the recommendation to the Session delegates. The delegates then vote, and the candidate is elected by securing a majority of valid votes from those present.

To choose the new spiritual leader for the Korean Church, the Nominating Committee convened in the auditorium for a closed-door meeting. After more than three hours of careful deliberation, the committee selected Pastor Nam as the presidential nominee.

The Session subsequently presented Pastor Nam as the final candidate for KUC President. Delegates agreed and seconded the motion before voting to confirm his election.

In his acceptance remarks, Pastor Nam began by saying, “I am not sure what I should say,” and continued, “Whether it is the work of the Union, the Conferences, or the local churches, I believe that if we serve with a heart that fears God, He will surely grant us the ability to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to us.”

He added, “There have always been unresolved issues and many challenges in every term, but I believe that if the Korean Church and its leaders unite, God will lead us and provide solutions.”
