2011 AHCA Presidents' Council Meets in Hong Kong

The Adventist Healthcare Association (AHCA) hosted its 2011 Presidents’ Council at Hong Kong Adventist Hospital from September 27 – 30, 2011. As host, Hong Kong Adventist Hospital made arrangements for accommodation, meeting place and food for attendees. All participants enjoyed the fellowship and hospitality extended by the hospital.

About 20 hospital administrators representing 11 member hospitals of the Association coming from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea participated in the council.   The guest speaker at this year’s council Mr. John Lee Kohshun, Managing Director-Principal Consultant of MuziHealth Consulting Pte Ltd, presented a very timely and relevant topic on "Adventist Healthcare in the 21st Century". He challenged and reminded all hospital administrators that our world is facing unprecedented economic and political changes; healthcare industry is undergoing revolution. What will the future of Adventist Healthcare Institutions be like? We need to re-invent our Healthcare in order to be relevant in the turbulent market place.

He pointed out the secrets of staying relevant in turbulent times:

– Clear Direction – Vision, Mission and Value
– Strategic Match – Resources with Market Opportunities
– Efficiency of Operation
– Agile Operation and People

In the afternoons, all participants went on a tour to Hong Kong Adventist Hospital, Canossa Catholic Hospital and Government Queen Elizabeth Hospital to see their facilities. It was truly an eye-opening and learning experience.

On the last day of the council, Dr. Huang Hui-ting, the AHCA President chaired a business session to discuss various agenda items including the reports from the member hospitals and review of AHCA Bylaws. The last agenda item was the election of AHCA Officers for the next two years (2012 & 2013) under the guidance of Pastor Stanley Ng, who was designated by the NSD Administration to serve as Advisor for the AHCA. After the nomination and vote, the new president of the AHCA is Dr. Kenji Yamagata (president of Kobe Adventist Hospital), and the new secretary/treasurer of the AHCA is Dr. Myung Sup Choi (the president of Sahmyook Medical Center – Seoul Adventist Hospital). The council also voted to hold the 2012 Presidents’ Council in Hangzhou, China.

AHCA is the umbrella organization over all the Adventist health-care institutions within the Northern Asia-Pacific Division. The purpose of AHCA is to provide coordination, expertise, services, advice and networking amongst hospital administrators.
