Hong Kong-Macau Youth Rally

August 1, 2008 Adventist College, Hong Kong

T
his year the Hong Kong-Macau Conference held their Youth Rally at Hong Kong Adventist College from July 17 to 20. By the grace of God, 119 people came from different churches ranging in age from 16 to 32. The program included fellowship, community service and spiritual seminars. Pastor Joshua Shin, NSD Youth Ministries’ director, gave a motivating speech and encouraged us to be active members in church and to dedicate our talents to church ministry.

The theme for the rally was “Sacrificing”, and guest speaker, Rebecca Liu, doctoral candidate at Andrews Theological Seminary shared her experiences when serving churches in China. Throughout her four different seminars, she related her testimony and drew from the Word of God messages to encourage our young people to be witnesses for God beyond the home, office or church, but also for Chinese people living in China.

The young people had several opportunities to fellowship with each other. On the first night, a combined BBQ arranged by the different church attendants allowed us to share food. During sporting activities, we did not only play traditional games but created new games to mix the boys and girls who play on the same field.

On Friday, the attendants divided into groups and prepared programs. A combined community service on Sabbath afternoon included a visit to the Elderly center, the Center for Mentally Challenged Children, the hospital and recruiting VOP students on the street. After two hours of service, many felt a deep impact of our theme “Sacrificing”, for Jesus call His disciples to “bear their own cross to follow Him”(Luke14:27).
