South Korea: Former Far Eastern Division
President visits NSD Nostalgia, a heart-felt handshake, smiles and a warm welcome greeted Elder Otis Edwards, former Far Eastern Division president the morning of February 28, 2008 at the Northern Asia-Pacific Division. Animated discussion brought back memories long forgotten, of the days when Dr. Jairyong Lee, current NSD president was still enjoying life in the Philippines as a professor at AIIAS, Elder Stanley Ng was the Executive Secretary at the South China Island Union Mission and Elder Edwards headed the work in the then, Far Eastern Division. That was before the Far Eastern Division was divided into Southern and Northern Asia-Pacific Divisions and the Edwards’ left Asia. It was the time when the seeds of the 1000MM were planted as ideas and slowly began to take shape and become the successful missionary training program that it is today. “This is my first time back to Korea since we left in 1993,” Elder Edwards explained. This time his work with the International Children’s Care has brought him to Korea for meetings. Accompanying Elder Edwards on his trip is Attorney Dean Beveridge, the co-coordinator of the Asia-Pacific region for ICC, a private relief and development fund with the specific purpose of caring for needy children.
