China: Kunming Church Dedicates New Expansion Buildings for Lay Training

On December 20, 2007, a bright and sunny day, more than 2000 church members including government officials and church leaders joyfully participated in the dedication service of two buildings to be used as a training place for lay workers. The local church leaders officiated at the dedication service where beautiful music was presented by the church combined tribal choir.

The construction of these two buildings was approved by the local government as an expansion project for the Ciba Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kunming, Yunnan Province of China.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Yunnan, China was first established in 1943 by missionaries sent from the General Conference. Now the membership stands at 10,000 meeting in more than 70 churches. Kunming is the capital city of Yunnan Province, and Ciba Church is considered a “Mother Church” to look after 10,000 members in the area.

In 2005, a piece of land of about 2640 square meters was aquired adjacent to the church. The proper applications were submitted to the government for Ciba church’s expansion for the purpose of running a local training center. It will gradually start to offer vocational skill training classes in the area of computer, electronic appliances repair, car repair, cooking, family health and more.
