Japan: Adventist Churches in Okinawa Well Equipped for Evangelism

July 18, 2007 Okinawa, Japan

Pastor Kim DaeSung, Northern Asia-Pacific Division Sabbath School and Personal Ministries director held special training sessions in Okinawa, Japan from June 22 to June 30. The meetings were held in conjunction with the Ministerial Association at the Okinawa Mission by the invitation of Mission President Pastor Yoshiaki Takaki and the Mission Ministerial Secretary, Pastor Ikemasu.

The weekend revival meeting at Naha Church was followed by special training for 1752 Evangelism at the Okinawa Adventist Primary School auditorium from June 23. About 70 people were in attendance. The 1752 Evangelism teaches people to ask the Lord for opportunities to share Spirit of Prophecy books with acquaintances by praying for 1 person for 7 days before sharing a book and doing this 52 weeks a year, hence the name 1752 Evangelism. From June 24 to 25, 2007, special training was given to 16 pastors in the seminar room at the Okinawa Mission. They learned how to teach the prophecies with the use of Power Point presentations and listened to growth strategies of the Adventist church given by Pastor Kim. He further introduced materials on Literature Evangelism training methods and gave a lecture on the ministerial principle of Adventist churches. The pastors in attendance received materials translated into Japanese.

A Literature Evangelism Training School was held in the mornings from June 26 to June 28. A special evangelistic meeting entitled The Coming of Jesus Christ was held at the chapel of Okinawa Adventist Medical Center at 19:30~21:00 from June 27 to June 29. Pastor Kim also held Evangelism Training at the Koja Church in the afternoon of June 30.

Through this series of meetings, Okinawa church members armed themselves spiritually and made new resolutions to devote themselves for evangelism once again. Pastor Lee KeunWan, pastor of the Kobe Church translated from Korean into Japanese during the meetings. Thanks to his fluent Japanese he could convey lectures to the audience faithfully and help them receive beneficial lessons.
