Mongolia: Making Kindergarten Effective and Fun

A series of workshop for kindergarten teachers and Sabbath School kindergarten teachers are being held at the SDA Language Institute conference hall in Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia, from May 28 to June 1, 2007. Mrs. Sharon Sim, the Children’s Ministries Director of Southeast Asia Union Mission and trainer of language teachers in Kuching, Malaysia, and Mrs. Esther Chuang, a kindergarten curriculum consultant and trainer of kindergarten teachers, were specially invited by the Northern Asia-Pacific Division Education and Children Ministries Departments to assist in the training of kindergarten teachers in Mongolia.

On May 27, after a warm welcome from Mrs. Cleidi Kuhn and Elder Elbert Kuhn, Children’s Ministries Director and Education Director of Mongolia Mission Field, Dr. Phoon, Chek Yat and Dr. Sally Phoon, Education Director and Children’s Ministries Director of Northern Asia-Pacific Division, jointly conducted the devotional on the topic “Study Your Bible with the Holy Spirit”. The philosophy of Adventist Education, the foundation of Christian schools, overall Kindergarten curriculum and themes for a two-year program were presented. A group of Mongolian ladies taught a few songs with body motions for young children. The afternoon discussions were centered on how children can learn effectively through playing.

Over the next few days, the participants will further explore the curriculum themes with hands-on experience with several methods including the use of puppets and its role in children’s ministries.

About 42 participants attended the workshop.
