Hong Kong Adventist College Gospel Week
April 5 2010, Hong Kong Adventist College, Hong Kong
Early March in Hong Kong was quite cold. Pastor Kwon
JohngHaeng and the Golden Angels put on sweatsuits
over their clothes which didn't help very much. It
was a big mistake to prepare only summer clothes
thinking that Hong Kong is in the tropical zone. But
the first week of March at Hong Kong Adventist
College (HKAC) was rather heated. It was when the
Gospel Week was held from March 8th to 13th with the
title "The Shepherd's Love."
Although an Adventist school, most of its students
are non-Adventists, so preaching to them the
Biblical message was no easy task. The president,
faculty, staff, and especially the chaplain PMM
Pastor Cho HaeJun and sister Park EunHaSoo from the
1000MM had prepared with all their might, but it
seemed as though we shouldn't expect too much.
It was the first time for the 7th Group of the
Golden Angels to serve overseas. Whenever they had a
chance, they approached students to talk and
sing with them.
For HKAC mostly
comprised of non-Adventists, it was a Gospel week
and a time of festival rather than a week of prayer.
There wasn't just one meeting a day, and all the
breaks between classes were filled with programs. In
lunch time, warm fuzzy, bible verse memorization
contest, sharing presents, sharing testimonies, and
tasting Korean food prepared by Mrs. Sung YooKyung
(Pastor Cho HaeJun's wife) were being held
simultaneously in different locations of the campus.
First is
prayer. Mrs.
Leung,
wife of
Malay
Peninsula Mission,
studying theology at the school told
to Pastor Kwon
that no matter how early she goes to
morning prayer meetings, Pastor Cho HaeJun is
already kneeling there in prayer.
Second is disciple-making of students. All the
programs are led by students and pastor Cho is just
looking from the back with his arm's crossed. It is
only possible because students have been previously
trained. On the other hand, Park EunHaSoo, is always
in action. As he was putting all his effort into
this week, Pastor Cho caught cold and seemed to need
some rest. Sister Park started the week by heading
to the airport with students, and on Thursday came
back home at eleven after buying presents in the
market. Although I told her to go to bed early, she
said she still had some work left to do for the
following day.
Pastor Kwon was being kept busy replying to
students. More than fifty students signed up in
Pastor Kwon's Face book and showed their
appreciation for the message that touched their
hearts. Pastor Kwon is still replying to students
who write to him and encourage them to accept Jesus
or keep their faith. Face book is functioning as a
mighty tool for the gospel ministry.
Four students were baptized at the end of the Gospel
Week, 22 decided to get baptized in the near future,
and 40 signed up for Bible study. The four students
that got baptized will be trained as Bible workers
to help other students to accept Jesus.
