NSD Week of Spiritual Emphasis

January 13, 2009, Taiwan

This morning saw the start of the NSD’s annual Week of Spiritual Emphasis which runs from February 1-5, 2010. Ron and Karen Flowers, Family Ministries’ directors from the General Conference began their first morning with a contemporary, fresh look at the book of Ruth. The emphasis this week is on Family Joy, a timely theme in a world of heartbreak, hurt, bitterness and broken people. Flowers’ highlighted the wonderful change that the connection to family and community can make in the everyday life as well as spiritual life of the individual through a look at the lives of Naomi and Ruth. The spiritually enriching and uplifting message accentuated the wonderful love of God for His children and how we as a church in turn can reflect this love to the hurting in our communities. They ended with the idea of Boaz as the Hebrew goel redeemer who typifies our Redeemer, Jesus Christ and the beautiful picture of His love and care for us.

Flowers’ are both Certified Family Life Educators. Ron holds an MDiv from Andrews University and a DMin from Denver Seminary with an emphasis in marriage and family. Karen has an MA from Andrews University and is pursuing a PhD in Religious Education with an emphasis in family life education from Andrews. They have two adult sons: Jeff, who is married and works with FINCA International, and Jon, who is a genetics researcher at New York University.

The talks are all being filmed and will be available on the NSD website for your viewing pleasure.
