ECD Delegates Enjoy Whirlwind Visit Through Korea

October 20, 2009, Ilsan, South Korea

Recently, twelve delegates from the East Central Africa Division visited the NSD and KUC to observe mission strategies and ministries that have proved successful in Korea. The division officers, departmental directors and union presidents from East Central Africa travelled through South Korea from September 21 to 27, 2009.

Dr. Jairyong Lee, NSD President, in his welcome remarks introduced the many different mission projects including some of the NSD flagship projects like the Pioneer Mission Movement (PMM), the 1000 Missionary Movement (1000MM), the HisHands Mission Movement (HHMM), and the Golden Angels. He emphasized the need to spread these mission projects, so that the gospel work may be finished soon. In addition, he expressed appreciation for KUC’s efforts in hosting the delegates and for providing human resource support through sending missionaries, providing mission information, materials, missionary training programs and strategies. He also requested that the KUC, which has been developed as a model Union in the world to be a channel of blessings.

In a whirlwind tour, delegates visited KUC, the East Central Korean Conference, West Central Korean Conference and had interviews with officers sharing the improvement of the Korean Adventist church. They also toured affiliated organizations of the KUC including Sahmyook Adventist Hospital, Yujawon Nursing Home, the Korean Publishing House, the SDA Language School, Sahmyook Foods, the Adventist Training Center, and Nomok Observatory and Educational institutions including Sahmyook University, Sahmyook Health College, Hankook Sahmyook academy, Taegang and Seoul Sahmyook Elementary School.

They also got to see many local churches – Seoul Central Church, Cheongnyangri Church, Mukdong Church, the SDA Language School Church, Teugyewon Church, and FILSDAK Church to have conversations with Korean Adventist members.

Pastor Geoffrey Mbwana, ECD President, said “we came here to see and learn mission work in the NSD and KUC and it gave us more challenges and benefits than we expected.” He also expressed a strong will to practice what he learned and felt here when he returned to the ECD.
