Leadership Summit

June 1 2009, Shenzhen, China

May 13-14, 2009, leaders from all corners of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division attended the first Leadership Summit in their territories. Assistant to the President and Leadership Training Coordinator of the NSD, Pastor Stanley Ng organized the meetings, held in Shenzhen, China. General Conference Vice President, Gerry Karst, GC Associate Secretary, G.T. Ng and General Field Secretary and Office of Assessment and Program Effectiveness, Paul Brantley all led out in a series of topics ranging from how to conduct a board meeting to how to establish whether a program is in fact effective. Besides classroom style lectures, participants enjoyed breakout sessions with round table discussions followed by feedback and further group discussion.

“I enjoyed the spiritual emphasis of the program,” said NSD Treasurer, Clyde Iverson. Division Ministerial Secretary, Dr. Miguel Luna when asked what he enjoyed most about the program said, “it gave a new perspective. I especially enjoyed Dr. Brantley seminar and the emphasis placed on how to distinguish facts from information. I was glad to receive the instruments of assessment to measure with.”

“The issues presented were real and concrete. It was encouraging to see that the people were open about the issues and gave concrete answers. We are all facing similar issues and I think it is positive that we are willing to confront them. It makes a stronger group of leaders.” said NSD Education director, Phoon Chek Yat.

Overall the feedback has been positive and leaders left the meetings enthusiastic about training their leaders and applying the newly learnt principles in their own territories. Some have begun the process of translating the materials into their own languages.
